An intangible, translucent white field of spiritual energy surrounds the target, protecting their life force. The spell allows the subject to make a Fortitude save to receive half the damage or negative levels dealt by creatures that do ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain, such as vampires and shadows, that normally don’t grant a save.
As well, when the target is subject to a spell or effect that removes their life force such as trap the soul or rise into an undead minion such as animate dead or a shadow’s create spawn, the target creature is immune to the effect for the duration of the spell. When the spell dissipates, the target may roll a Will save (DC equal to the spell or 15 + half the creature’s HD) to resist the effect. If the subject fails, the effect takes place as normal.
