Legend
Shub-Niggurath manifests as an animal, plant, swarm, or heap of compost possessing and imbuing creatures with malign intelligence. Shub-Niggurath is the primal principle of life. As old as life itself, Shub-Niggurath spreads and infects entire planets, filling them with her monstrous spawn. Having little apparent personality, Shub-Niggurath breeds oozes and plant monsters as a part of her very nature, a fecund fertility that defies reason and purpose. She has a benevolent side in that she can nurture life, but she reclaims what she gives, turning those who rely on her into base creatures without mind or will of their own. Shub-Niggurath is also a source of power for cultists of other Great Old Ones, and her name is often invoked to add power to the worship of other entities.

Cult
Shub-Niggurath’s followers are often rural community leaders, and bring gifts of fertility and bounty, but such gifts are always marred by mutation and blight. These cults worship her in the form of a mutated animal and use such an animal as an oracle that guides the actions of the cult in debased acts of random violence and perversion. She also has followers among certain incestuous families, clans whose leading members are so degenerate they can no longer show themselves among ordinary folk. Her cult is uncommon, but surfaces among rural Kayanoi and the savages of the Sikoyan Tundra, often after a famine or blight has turned the population to desperate measures. She is also known in Californ and other jungle lands.

Spell Preparation Ritual
Find the most significant manifestation of procreative ability nearby, especially one that is unusual or mutated. This is often a plant but can be an animal or monster. Study this living thing for a full hour, interacting with it as closely as you can, studying it for signs of Shub-Niggurath’s power. For a full day you gain a +1 bonus to the save DC of spells that allow a Fortitude save.

Alternate Codes of Conduct
When a cleric selects two domains from their associated faiths they take on the responsibility of meeting certain codes of conduct, lest they earn the disapproval of their deity and lose access to their class abilities (see Cleric and Disapproval).

A cleric of Shub-Niggurath may substitute one or both of the associated codes of conduct for the ones listed in their domains.

  • You must seek out or encourage consensual sexual activity for the purpose of reproduction.
  • All faerie-folk should be honored, no faerie blood shall be spilled due to your actions, if no faerie folk are seen offerings of milk, wine, or butter should be left for them.
