Khashabi

Khashabi (Woodfolk)
Khashabi elemental-kin are descended from beings that have their origin on Arboria, the Elemental Plane of Wood, who became biologically fused with humanoids in the past. On Porphyra, they were the servants and emissaries of the Wooden Triad: Apieca Merista, Banyan Vines, and the Greenlord. Offspring of the Arboreal genies, the shajara, many of these elemental-kin came from mystical fusions of human and plant in strange druidic ceremonies initiated by the cult of Apieca Merista, or warriors and favored elven servants healed in the vegetable ichor of the Greenlord. Khashabi differ greatly from human-normal appearance and attitude, and they are likely the rarest of the elemental-kin. They have characteristics similar to treants themselves, slow-moving and thinking, little interest in non-plant life, a long view of things. In the days of the Zendik Order, they were servants of the Greenlord in the vast forests of the western continent, or venerated as representatives of the little-known wood elementals on the Material Plane. Strange connections existed and do still exist between the khashabi and the cultists of Shub-Niggurath, Great Old One of fertility and virulent plant life- whether the same is true of the disease-like plant god Mâl is poorly understood. During the War the khashabi were wiped out of existence in the Great Green by elven freedom fighters, with a few taking refuge in the Scrublands, Jotun Forest, and the Forest of Gora. They dislike lands outside their forest homes, but have been supported by cultists of various faiths to spread and make their presence known on the world again.
Khashabi appear as strongly built humans with wide shoulders and long arms, and with skin that resembles the bark of trees; some with white skin like birch and poplar, but most with brown, grooved skin. Hair is leaf-like and distinctive, with colors of green, red and yellow. Their eyes are a shining yellow-white, and their hands and feet are blocky and thick.

Adventurers: Khashabi are reluctant adventurers and seldom do so simply for the sake of wanderlust or the desire for wealth. The acquisition of power to protect a forest may be a reason to venture forth, or a particularly strong calling from a god may be another. Khashabi make desirable mercenaries in war, and an enraged khashabi warrior would excite most generals.
