Eldritch Knight

Eldritch Knight
Fearsome warriors and spellcasters, eldritch knights are rare among magic-users in their ability to wade into battle alongside other martial classes. Those who must face eldritch knights in combat fear them greatly, for their versatility on the battlefield is tremendous; against heavily armed and armored opponents they may level crippling spells, while opposing spellcasters meet their ends on an eldritch knight’s blade.

Role: Eldritch knights master the abilities of both fighting and magic, hurling magic at the enemy one moment and hewing down their opponents with steel the next. They are just as comfortable in the thick of combat as they are casting spells at foes while remaining safely behind their compatriots. Their versatility makes them valuable allies.

Class Abilities
These are all the class features of the eldritch knight.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An eldritch knight is proficient with weapons (unarmed, simple, martial), armor (heavy, light, and medium), and shields (including tower shields).

Spells: An eldritch knight may learn simple spells. They are never able to learn spells with the healing, positive energy, or negative energy descriptors. This selection of possible spells makes up the eldritch knight’s spell list.

To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the eldritch knight must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an eldritch knight’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the eldritch knight’s Intelligence modifier.

An eldritch knight can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Eldritch Knight. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Intelligence score.

An eldritch knight may know any number of spells. She must choose and prepare her spells ahead of time by getting 8 hours of sleep and spending 1 hour studying his spellbook. While studying, the eldritch knight decides which spells to prepare.

Spellbook: An eldritch knight begins play with a spellbook containing any 0th-level spells plus three 1st-level spells from her spell list. The eldritch knight also selects a number of additional 1st-level spells equal to her Intelligence modifier from her spell list to add to the spellbook. At each new eldritch knight level, she gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new eldritch knight level) for her spellbook. At any time, an eldritch knight can also add spells found in other spellbooks to her own (see Magic). An eldritch knight can only add a spell to her spellbook if it is on her spell list.

Bonus Languages: An eldritch knight's bonus language choices include Draconic, Elvish, and Old Porphyran. These choices are in addition to the bonus languages available to the character because of his race.

Cantrips: Eldritch knights can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0th-level spells, each day, as noted on Table : Eldritch Knight under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Diverse Training (Ex): Eldritch knight levels counts as both fighter and wizard levels for the purpose of meeting feat prerequisites.

Split Training: Due to the eldritch knight’s split focus they are unable to take either of the Complex Spell or Exotic Spell feats.

Eldritch Ties: At 1st level, eldritch knights develop a bond with magic similar to a wizard’s. The eldritch knight chooses between a magic bond and a magic school (see Wizard). Whichever option is chosen, it works just like the corresponding wizard class ability, counting eldritch knight levels as wizard levels. An eldritch knight that chooses magic bond also gains Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat at 1st level.

Spell Critical (Su): Once per day, when an eldritch knight confirms a critial hit, he can cast a spell with a casting time of one standard action as a free action. The spell must include the target of the attack as one of its targets or in its area of effect. Casting this spell does not provoke an attack of opportunity. The caster must still meet all of the normal spell requirements.

You can use this ability twice at 5th level, three times at 10th level, and on any critical hit at 15th level.

Bonus Feats: At 3rd level, and every three levels thereafter, an eldritch knight gains a bonus feat in addition to those normally gained. These bonus feats must be selected from those listed as Combat, Item Creation, Metamagic, or Teamwork feats.

Spell Diversity: At 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th levels the eldritch knight selects one of the non-racial, non-faith spell descriptors. They add all the spells with the selected descriptor to their spell list. You may still never select healing, positive energy, or negative energy descriptors.

Armored Spellcaster (Ex): The eldritch knight no longer suffers any armor check penalty from armor to their caster checks.
